Stained glass, two layers.
This diptych is part of a series that delights in the details of our daily lives. It is inspired by my work outside of being a stained glass artist/ craftsman.
Residential tower blocks are features of our cities: for some of us, they are home. They are scattered across London... desirable in some sense and yet terrifying in another.
What goes on behind the windows is familiar to us and yet removed. We only know what is going on in our own homes but are rarely privileged enough to get a glimpse of the lives of others. But here, at Paradise Place, you can peek through the windows and find hiding inside, places of love, fear, laughter, loneliness, anger, sex and television. Familiar, sad, amusing and odd.
Stained glass is an unusual but perfect medium to show domesticity: it is a window to our lives. You are invited to look through this window of windows and find out what's happening behind them.
