Sweet William II

2024
Stained glass
One of four panels created for the BSMGP exhibition celebrating William Morris. All reflecting the death of stained glass (currently an endangered heritage craft) and the evil of capitalism. William Morris would approve.
The sooty dirty glass reflects industrialisation and filth of mass production in the Victorian era. Just seen are the horseshoe nails of our craft. They are hammering into the glass, shattering it.
In the middle is the Sweet William flower representing the ideals of beauty as appreciated and reflected in William Morris. It represents the conflict he faced in his ideals.
